The Buchau Family Resort on Lake Achensee is a family-friendly hotel in Tyrol where there’s plenty for kids to do—from pools and slides to outdoor adventures, games, and children’s activities. You definitely won’t get bored here! But for me, the horses and ponies were definitely one of the highlights. I love horses, so I was especially looking forward to meeting them and finally getting to ride.

Finally with the horses!

When I saw the horses for the first time, I was totally excited. Of course, I wanted to go to them right away.

At the same time, I was also a little nervous. After all, a horse is pretty big when you’re standing right next to it!

First, I got to get to know the horses and ponies. I thought it was nice that I didn’t have to start riding right away, but could just spend some quiet time with the animals first.

I petted them and watched them. Their coats were really soft, and I thought it was kind of funny that every horse was different.

With some of them, I immediately thought, “Oh, you’re so cute!”

Then I was finally allowed to ride

Of course, I was most looking forward to riding.

When I put on my riding helmet, I was pretty excited. I didn’t know exactly what it would feel like to sit on a horse.

Then I was sitting in the saddle.

And my first thought was something like: Wow, that’s high!

But after a short while, it got better and better. I got used to the movement and slowly became more confident.

Horses aren't like toys

Another thing I learned while riding: A horse is not a toy.

You have to be careful and calm and pay attention to how the animal reacts. I thought it was exciting how you somehow form a connection with the horse.

When you’re calm, everything feels much more relaxed.

For me, that was a completely different experience from all the other things I did on vacation.

Of course, there’s plenty of action at the kids’ hotel. You can play, run around, and try out lots of things. With the horses, on the other hand, it was much calmer.

And that’s exactly what I loved about it.

A vacation at Lake Achensee is really wonderful anyway

Lake Achensee in Tyrol is a great place for a family vacation.

There are mountains and nature everywhere, and there’s plenty to do outdoors. I especially loved how well the horses fit into this setting.

For me, it’s all part of the same picture: mountains, nature, horses, and vacation.

And when you come back to the family hotel after a ride, there are, of course, plenty of other things to do.

That’s why family vacations are never boring at all.

What do I really want to do again?

Without a doubt: horseback riding!

When we go back to the Buchau family resort on Lake Achensee, I definitely want to visit the horses again. I want to learn even more, and maybe be a little more confident next time. And of course, I want to pet the ponies again.

Maybe there’ll even be a horse that recognizes me on our next vacation. That would be really cool!
I’d love to go horseback riding once a day.

For me, the horses were one of the best parts of our vacation at Lake Achensee.

I was a little nervous at first, but then I got braver and braver. By the end, I didn’t want to stop at all. I learned that you have to be calm and careful around horses. And I realized how great it is to try something new and then discover: I can do this!

If someone asked me what I liked best about the children’s hotel at Lake Achensee, I’d probably say:

“The horses!”

And if I’m asked whether I’d like to go horseback riding again next time, the answer is obvious anyway:

“Yes! But please, for longer this time!”
