If someone asks me today what our eight-year-old son remembers most about our family vacation in the Pitztal, the answer comes out instantly: “The kids’ fire department!” Amid the mountains, nature, and lots of family adventures, this experience at Pitzis Kinderhotel was the absolute highlight for him. And to be honest, it was for us as parents, too.
Becoming a Firefighter for a Day—A Child's Dream Comes True
As soon as he put on the firefighter’s uniform, our son was beaming from ear to ear. With his helmet, protective gear, and face shield, he immediately felt like a real firefighter. When the fire truck pulled up, the adventure was complete.
After a brief introduction, they got right to it: Together with the other children, he practiced how to rescue people from a smoke-filled area, how to put out a fire, and how to use a fire hose properly. Everything was explained in an age-appropriate way and supervised by experienced staff, so the children felt safe while having a lot of fun.

Our son participated with great enthusiasm. After completing each task, his self-confidence grew a little more—and there was always plenty of time in between to ask questions and explore firefighting technology up close.

The grand finale was the medal that each child received as a souvenir. Our son wore it with pride for the rest of the vacation. Even weeks later, he was still talking enthusiastically about his first “firefighting mission.”
