“When are we finally leaving?” —I hear this question more than once on Thursday afternoon. Everyone is really looking forward to it, because today a very special adventure awaits our young vacation guests: We’re taking the little train from the Aparthotel Imperial in Bibione to the Val Grande Nature Reserve.
As an activity leader, I get to accompany the children on this outing, and every time, I get a little excited myself.
Taking the little train out of the hotel
As we leave the hotel behind, the landscape changes as well. Just a moment ago, we were right in the midst of Bibione’s lively vacation atmosphere, and a few minutes later, we’re surrounded by lush greenery.
The Val Grande shows us a completely different side of Bibione. That’s exactly what makes this trip so special.

A Journey of Discovery Through Nature
Once we arrive in Val Grande, our little adventure begins. We’re on the move for about an hour, exploring the forest, the dunes, and the bodies of water together.
But it’s not just about walking along a path. I’ve prepared riddles for the children and keep asking questions:
What kind of animal might live here by the pond? What might be hiding among the trees? And what tracks can we spot?
Suddenly, everyone is looking very closely. A branch moves, there’s a rustling sound somewhere—and just like that, an ordinary walk turns into an exciting journey of discovery.

Learning without it feeling like learning
What do I especially like about this field trip? The kids learn without even realizing it.
We talk about animals, their habitats, and the nature around us. But no one feels like they’re sitting in a classroom. We tell stories, solve puzzles, search for answers together, and have a lot of fun doing it.
For me, moments like these are exactly what make for a wonderful family vacation: kids are free to be curious, discover new things, and just be kids.
Bibione from the Other Side
When you think of a beach vacation in Italy, the first things that probably come to mind are the beach, sand, and swimming. And of course, those are an essential part of any trip to Bibione.
But our trip to Val Grande shows that Bibione has another, very special side.
Just a few minutes from the beach, we find ourselves immersed in a lush green landscape and get to experience nature up close. For me, it’s a wonderful change of pace from the classic day at the beach, and for the kids, it’s a little adventure right in the middle of our family vacation.

A sweet break and a surprise
After our exploration tour, everyone deserves a break. We can refuel with some fresh fruit and talk together about what we saw along the way.
But then something happens that not everyone expected:
Mario stops by!
Our frog mascot from the Aparthotel Imperial, of course, immediately sparks excitement. For the kids, it’s something truly special to suddenly run into him right in the middle of Val Grande.
And for me, as an activity leader, it’s wonderful to see how an already great afternoon turns into a moment the kids will probably be talking about for a long time to come.
Conclusion by Laura (childcare provider)
As a childcare provider, I experience many wonderful moments. But it’s precisely these little adventures that stick with me the most. A little train. Curious children. A forest full of sounds. A few tricky puzzles. Fresh fruit. And, to top it all off, a surprise visit from Mario.
Sometimes it doesn’t take much to make a day on vacation special.
