At first, I thought, “Okay, this is a big playground.” But even on our very first visit, it became clear that ALMI-opolis is so much more than that. The large wooden adventure world in the middle of the garden at the Almhof Family Resort & SPA is a real little world of adventure—with multiple levels, climbing structures, hidden nooks, and plenty of space to explore. For our family, ALMI-opolis quickly became one of the highlights of our vacation in the Zillertal.

A playground that's really a little world of its own

Even on her very first tour, there was an incredible amount for Clara to discover. No sooner had she climbed up somewhere than she wanted to know what was hiding around the next corner.

One moment she was walking down a hallway, the next she was climbing a flight of stairs, and suddenly she found herself in front of a new play area. She was especially taken with the big bird’s nest and the mysterious mouse hole. Of course, she had to try out the leaning tower, too.

I loved watching how quickly Clara made it her own little world. She made up stories, played hide-and-seek, and kept finding new paths. It wasn’t that typical “try it once and move on” kind of thing—she could really lose herself in it.

What Makes ALMI-opolis So Special

What I immediately liked as a mom was the design. ALMI-opolis is made of wood, which gives it a completely different look than many traditional playgrounds.

The warm wood blends beautifully with the surroundings of Gerlos and the Zillertal. While playing, you’re surrounded by the mountains and nature, and at the same time, there’s a truly vast world of adventure right in front of the hotel.

The different areas are also lovingly designed. There’s a little cheese dairy, the Mini Almhof, the Bird’s Nest, and, of course, the Mouse Hole. There’s something to discover everywhere, and I got the impression that the kids kept finding new details.

Right next to it is Hasen-opolis with the little dwarf rabbits. Of course, we had to stop by there regularly as well.

And what are Mom and Dad doing?

For me, the best thing about a family-friendly hotel like the Almhof is that kids don’t constantly need our attention.

Of course, I kept an eye on Clara from time to time and also walked through ALMI-opolis with her. But in between, they were able to entertain themselves and play with the other kids.

That was actually a great part of it for me.

While they were climbing and exploring, my husband and I could have a cup of coffee or watch them play. On the lounge chairs set right in the meadow in front of ALMI-opolis And honestly, that’s exactly what’s sometimes worth its weight in gold on a family vacation.

A highlight at the Gerlos Children's Hotel

That’s why we find the Almhof Family Resort & SPA in Gerlos to be a very family-friendly place. Especially when you’re on vacation with kids in the Zillertal, it’s nice not to have to plan a full day of excursions every single day.

You can simply head out in the morning to explore the area, go hiking, or enjoy the mountains. And when the kids eventually get tired of the excursions, the next adventure is already waiting for them at the resort.

For Clara, ALMI-opolis quickly became a regular part of our day.

Often, right after breakfast, she’d ask, “Are we going to ALMI-opolis again today?”

You can probably guess the answer to that.

Conclusion by Katharina (Clara's mom (age 5))

For us, ALMI-opolis is definitely one of the highlights at the Almhof Family Resort & SPA in Gerlos.

I especially like that it’s not just a big playground. The combination of wood, nature, climbing, exploration, and imagination makes this adventure world a place where kids can truly immerse themselves in their own play.

And for me, there’s really no better summary than this one sentence, which I heard quite often during our vacation:

“Mom, can we go back to ALMI-opolis?”
